Go Tell It On The Mountain

An African-American spiritual song, compiled by John Wesley Work, Jr., dating back to at least 1865, that has been sung and recorded by many gospel and secular performers.

Go tell it on the mountain
A D A
Over the hills and everywhere
D Bm
Go tell it on the mountain
     Em A D
That Jesus Christ is born

Verse 1:
      D
While shepherds kept their watching
     A D
Over silent flocks by night
              A/C# Bm
Behold throughout the heavens
      Em A D
There shone a Holy Light

Verse 2:
    D
The shepherds feared and trembled
     A D
When all Above the earth,
             A/C# Bm
Rang out the angel chorus
     Em A D
That hailed our Saviour's birth.

Verse 3:
     D
Down in a lowly manger
    A D
The humble Christ was born

And brought us God's salvation
     Em A D
that blessed Christmas morn!

Bridge: (New Version)

A D
Jesus Christ is born

Halellujah, Halellujah

He's the savior of the world
